Canyon Crest Fire Prompts Evacuation Warnings North Of Jurupa Valley
JURUPA VALLEY, Calif. — Firefighters are battling a rapidly spreading wildfire in the San Bernardino Mountains north of Jurupa Valley, prompting mandatory evacuation warnings for nearby communities.
Fire Rages, Sparking Evacuations
The Canyon Crest Fire ignited around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday and has already consumed over 1,000 acres, according to the San Bernardino County Fire Department.
Multiple structures have been destroyed, and an evacuation order has been issued for the community of Glen Avon. Evacuation warnings are in place for the nearby communities of Crestline, Lake Arrowhead, and Running Springs.
Cause Under Investigation
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. However, strong winds and dry vegetation are fueling the blaze.
"The fire is burning in steep terrain, which is making it difficult for firefighters to access," said San Bernardino County Fire Chief Mark Hartwig. "We are working to contain the fire, but we need residents to be prepared to evacuate if necessary."
Residents Urged to Evacuate
Residents in the affected areas are urged to evacuate immediately if they are asked to do so by authorities.
"We understand that evacuating is not easy, but it is important to remember that your safety is our top priority," said Jurupa Valley Mayor Beth Drinkwater. "Please follow the instructions of firefighters and law enforcement officials."
Forward-Looking Statement
Firefighters are working to contain the fire, but it is expected to continue burning for several days. The fire is a reminder of the importance of being prepared for wildfires, especially during the summer months.
Residents are encouraged to create an evacuation plan, gather important documents, and make sure they have a way to receive emergency notifications.
