How FSU's Mike Norvell Rebuilt Seminoles Football To CFP Contender
In 2020, Mike Norvell inherited a struggling Florida State Seminoles football program that had won just three games the previous season. Norvell's debut campaign was a humbling one, as the Noles finished 3-6. However, the young head coach saw a glimmer of hope amidst the adversity.
"It was a tough year, but we learned a lot about ourselves and about our players," Norvell said. "We knew we had to make some changes, and we did."
Norvell made significant staff and roster adjustments in 2021. He brought in experienced coordinators and recruited several highly-rated prospects. The result was a dramatic turnaround, as the Seminoles went 9-3 and finished the season ranked in the Top 25.
"Coach Norvell has done a great job of changing the culture here," said quarterback Jordan Travis. "He's brought in a winning attitude, and we're all buying into it."
In 2023, Florida State is poised to take the next step under Norvell. The Seminoles have a talented roster led by Travis, running back Trey Benson, and defensive end Jared Verse. They also play in a relatively weak ACC, which should provide them with a path to a berth in the College Football Playoff.
"We have high expectations for this team," Norvell said. "We believe we have the talent and the drive to be one of the best teams in the country."
Norvell has quickly made Florida State a force to be reckoned with. The Seminoles are now a perennial contender in the ACC and a legitimate threat to reach the College Football Playoff. With Norvell at the helm, the future of Florida State football is bright.
"Coach Norvell is a rising star in the coaching ranks," said former Seminoles All-American Deion Sanders. "He's a winner, and he's going to lead Florida State back to the top."
