Alabama A&M Football Player Dies Month After Head Injury In Game

Johnson, a redshirt freshman linebacker, was injured in the third quarter of the Bulldogs' season-opening game against Miles College on September 3. He was taken to Huntsville Hospital and underwent surgery for a subdural hematoma, a collection of blood on the brain.

Johnson had been in a coma since the surgery and never regained consciousness.

"We are deeply saddened by the loss of Malcom Johnson," said Alabama A&M President Andrew Hugine Jr. "He was a bright and promising young man, and his death is a tragedy for our university and the entire community."
